Questions
About Supported Independent Living
What does SIL funding actually pay for?
The staff, not the house. SIL covers the support hours inside your home — personal care, meals, medication, household tasks and overnight cover where your plan funds it. Rent, food and bills are yours, the same as for anyone renting.
Do I have to live with other people?
No, but shared homes are more common because pooled support hours stretch much further. Individual living options exist, and we will tell you honestly whether your funding is likely to cover one before you get your hopes up.
How does housemate matching work?
Slowly, and with your say at every step. Coffee first, then a house visit, then usually an overnight or weekend stay. Nobody moves in on the strength of a profile on paper, and you can stop at any point.
Can my family visit?
Of course — it is your home. Visiting hours are whatever you and your housemates agree in the house agreement, and family are welcome to stay for meals or overnight where there is room.
What if I want to move out?
Tell us and we will help. Your service agreement sets a notice period, but we will not hold you to a house that is not working. We help you look at other vacancies, ours or another provider’s.
How long does the process take?
From first enquiry to moving in is usually six to twelve weeks, most of it spent on visits and funding confirmation rather than paperwork. An urgent situation can move faster if a suitable vacancy exists.
